Bill Laurie: Non-violent dissident Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh, AKA "Me Nam," was just sentenced to ten.....TEN...years ....prison for her impertinent criticism of a corrupt, power-monopoly, police-state thug-ocracy mafia government. Ten years. No one in U.S. does or says anything. U.S. State Dept. as flaccid and impotent and gutless as ever. U.S. government doesn't give a damn.
"News" media abysmally and willfully ignorant. American public as oblivious as ever. If what's left of this country had an ounce of backbone it would tell Hanoi that no more student visas would be granted for Hanoi-sponsored students to study in U.S. It would tell Hanoi that a minimal 2% surtax would be applied to all imports from Viet Nam, with proceed going to support jailed dissidents in Viet Nam, which has an estimated 110 political prisoners. U.S. should also advise Hanoi and rest of the world that U.S embassy will be closed on Mondays and may extend this to Tuesday if situation does not change.
But.....no.....nothing will happen aside from U.S. State Department's spineless statement expressing "dismay and disappointment" and "profound regret" and other similarly manifestations of mindless and spineless acquiescence.
This has been going on for 30 years, since Arkansas Fats Clinton normalized relations with Hanoi. Situation is pathetic, nauseating.
