"Tôi sửng sốt và không tin việc ông Dũng bị bắt"

Nhà báo tự do Nguyễn Tường Thụy, Phó Chủ tịch Hội nhà báo Độc lập Việt Nam, bình luận về việc ký giả độc lập, TS Phạm Chí Dũng vừa bị bắt và khởi tố hình sự tại Sài Gòn hôm 21/11/2019.
"Tôi cảm thấy sửng sốt trước tin này, tôi không tin rằng ông Phạm Chí Dũng bị bắt. Vì tôi hiểu được về cách viết lách và sự cẩn thận trong viết lách của ông Phạm Chí Dũng," ông Tường Thụy, cũng là một nhà văn tự do và blogger, nói với BBC News Tiếng Việt cùng ngày thứ Năm.
"Thí dụ ông Dũng luôn tin tưởng những bài viết của mình không vi phạm pháp luật. Thứ hai, tôi được biết rằng ông rất thận trọng trước các bài viết thiếu căn cứ, những ngôn từ xúc phạm và những bài ấy ông đều xét duyệt rất là kỹ.
"Và qua thực tế đọc những bài viết của ông Dũng, thì tôi nghĩ rằng ông Dũng không nằm trong chuyện là tuyên truyền chống nhà nước. Còn về phía Hội nhà báo, chúng tôi mỗi người cảm nhận một cách thôi, chúng tôi cũng chưa bàn và chưa trao đổi gì với nhau cả."
Và ông Tường Thụy nói thêm:
"Cho nên anh em hội viên hội nhà báo phản ứng như thế nào trước thông tin này, thì cái này tôi chưa thể trả lời được. Mà tôi chỉ thấy rằng trong vị trí của tôi, trong suy nghĩ của tôi, thì tôi thấy như vậy."
Theo ông Nguyễn Tường Thụy, có thể có một 'thông điệp' mà 'không tốt và nguy hiểm' đằng sau vụ bắt giữ và khởi tố hình sự với nhà báo Phạm Chí Dũng, ông nói:
"Cái thông điệp của họ là đây là một bước đi tôi nghĩ là không tốt và nguy hiểm trong việc đàn áp báo chí tự do.
"Cho nên thông điệp của họ bắt Phạm Chí Dũng là cũng răn đe những người viết báo tự do khác."

Questions & Answers_Bill Laurie

Will be speaking to college VN class this week.  They've already submitted 17 questions, answers to which I've since emailed back to their instructor, a USAF VN veteran with history Ph.D.  The presentation will touch on some of these topics and issues but will include much more than contained in these answers.  Here are the questions and answers..... 1. What do you feel the television media effects were on not only the soldiers, but the Vietnamese people as well? It's arguable that television/media coverage had little direct effect on troops, and less so on Viet Namese people, because they didn't see much of it.  It had a huge cumulative indirect effect on both because "news"(?), shallow and biased as it was, did effect people in U.S., both amongst general public and elected officials and decision makers.  The effect was detrimental.
